Bioprotect aims to develop and enhance the organic market in Burkina in a systemic way, by working on the supply and demand of organic products. This approach is twofold: (1) enabling growers to produce organically, thanks to training provided by Bioprotect teams and the sale of biopesticides and biofertilizers produced by the company’s own R&D; (2) adding value to organic products by marketing market garden produce and sesame seeds, among others.
Burkina Faso is heavily dependent on agriculture, which employs almost 80% of the working population. However, the sector has been severely affected by a number of crises (security and climatic tensions), which have taken their toll on the country and increased the vulnerability of small-scale producers in particular.
With its approach to training, supplying inputs and adding value to produce, BIOPROTECT seeks to respond as effectively as possible to producers’ needs. This approach has the power to act as a virtuous circle, encouraging producers to adopt more sustainable farming methods and helping to democratise organic farming in Burkina Faso. Against this backdrop, the company has set itself the target of working with 10,000 producers by 2030.
