The Fédération des Coopératives Maraichères du Niger (FCMN NIYA) is a farmers’ organization in Niger that works in the field of small-scale irrigation, supporting its member unions and cooperatives with a view to improving their socio-economic conditions and ensuring food security for the people of Niger in general.
FCMN NIYA Niger, crossed paths with SIDI in 2013 as part of the development of the potato sector in Niger. At that time, the development of the market-growing sector had many financial requirements that the FCMN NIYA could not meet.
SIDI’s decisive support within the framework of a partnership was the financing of potato seeds imported from France, and the facilitation of a guaranteed draft to enable orders to be placed with local and French financial services. This technical support enabled us to make contact with Germicopa, a firm of potato seed producers. This activity would probably never have taken off without the sincere partnership with SIDI and its financial and technical network.
The results of this partnership have enabled FCMN NIYA in Niger to meet local demand from family farms for quality potatoes that have evolved over the years. The quantities of seed imported have ranged from 100 tonnes at the outset to over 500 tonnes, resulting in unprecedented development of potato production in Niger for the benefit of FCMN NIYA members. This partnership with SIDI has also enabled us to provide other no less important forms of support.
To the 2,000 SIDI shareholders who have made it possible to support FCMN NIYA, I would like to say that thanks to you, FCMN NIYA’s member and non-member producers in the potato sector have improved their incomes and ensured food security for their families and for the people of Niger in general. Be proud of your contribution and receive FCMN NIYA’s infinite gratitude.
Finally, please continue your invaluable solidarity with and support for our grassroots organizations, through SIDI, which continues to support the rural world in Africa in general and Niger in particular.
